At St Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary School, we are proud to walk alongside our children and families as they take important steps on their faith journey through the Sacraments.
As part of our parish community, our school plays a vital role in preparing children to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. These are special moments of grace when children grow closer to God and deepen their understanding of His love and mercy.
✨ Working Together: Parish, School, Family
We believe that the preparation for the Sacraments is a shared responsibility between home, school and parish. Children and their families work with Father Moses, Mrs Salters, and the parish catechists in a programme of learning and prayer, rooted in the With You Always resource.
This family catechesis approach strengthens the faith of the whole family, as parents are supported to share their own faith and guide their children through this meaningful journey.
✨ The Journey of Faith
During their preparation, children take part in:
- Class lessons and reflections on the meaning of the Sacraments.
- Family sessions led by our parish and supported by school staff.
- Regular opportunities for prayer and worship in school and in church.
- Experiences of Eucharistic Adoration, helping children recognise the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
- Visits to places of pilgrimage and learning, such as the Carlo Acutis exhibition on Eucharistic Miracles.
Children first receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, experiencing God’s forgiveness and love, before making their First Holy Communion and fully participating in the Eucharist.
✨ A Celebration of Faith
The Sacramental Programme is a time of joy and celebration for the whole school and parish family. We come together to support and pray for the children as they take these important steps in their spiritual lives.
We are grateful to Father Moses, our parish catechists, families and staff for the care and guidance they provide, helping our children grow in faith, love, and understanding.
