Nursery
At St Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary School, our Foundation stage aims to provide a high-quality early education for children aged 3 and 5 years old. Our Foundation Stage is a very special place where all our children are loved and nurtured to ensure that they are able to achieve their very best.
There are seven areas of learning and development that we focus on during your child’s time in the Foundation Stage. These areas are all important to your child’s development and are inter-connected.
Our main focus of your child’s experience in Nursery is linked to the Prime areas of the EYFS Framework: Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; and Physical Development. These are particularly important for learning and forming relationships. They build a foundation for children to thrive and they provide the basis for learning in all areas.
At St Vincent de Paul’s Nursery setting, learning takes place through play and focused group activities. Practitioners work closely and develop positive relationships with your child and support them in their learning journey through well-planned, progressive, stimulating and exciting activities in a safe learning environment. We aim to create a real love of learning which will last with your child through their school life and beyond.
We recognise that parents are children’s first and most enduring educators and we value the contribution they make. We recognise the role that parents have played, and their future role, in educating the children. We do this through:
- talking to parents about their child before their child starts in our school,
- transition visits,
- induction meetings,
- stay and play/read sessions,
- spotlight progress meetings,
- accessing personal ‘Learning Journals’,
- assigning a Key Person to each child,
- sharing an annual report summarising children’s strengths and next steps.
We believe the success of your child’s education is very much a partnership between home, school and the community. When your child starts Nursery, it is not where your job ends and ours begins. It is where our job begins and yours continues. Children come to Nursery with such a wealth of experience and knowledge. It is our aim to build on this together with parents to ensure that every child, no matter what ability or background, really does get the best start to education.
If you have any queries or concerns, the EYFS team will be happy to support you.
